In about 30% of cases, patients begin to recover their hearing.

In some cases, hearing begins to recover even if the audiogram shows paralysis of hearing (the entire area is scaled out) at the end of steroid treatment. Even if there is no complete cure, even a small return of hearing can prevent auditory atrophy. Also, if hearing returns even a little, acupuncture treatment should be started as soon as possible because rehabilitation with the brain and ear can improve the condition.
