My otolaryngologist doesn't seem too concerned about it, but I have diabetes and am worried about the side effects of steroids. What are the side effects of using steroids for sudden deafness?
Steroids have both short-term and long-term side effects.
Short-term side effects are increased blood sugar and blood pressure while on steroids. One of our patients has had his blood pressure rise to 240. In the long term, after about a month of pulse therapy with steroids, the body temperature drops and so does the immune system. Furthermore, in the future, the bones are known to collapse and deform.
